Psalm 95

Psalm 95

¹Come,^(A) let us sing for joy^(B) to the Lord;
let us shout aloud^(C) to the Rock^(D) of our salvation.
²Let us come before him^(E) with thanksgiving^(F)
and extol him with music^(G) and song.

³For the Lord is the great God,^(H)
    the great King^(I) above all gods.^(J)
⁴In his hand are the depths of the earth,^(K)
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
⁵The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.^(L)

⁶Come, let us bow down^(M) in worship,^(N)
    let us kneel^(O) before the Lord our Maker;^(P)
⁷for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,^(Q)
    the flock under his care.

Today, if only you would hear his voice,
⁸“Do not harden your hearts^(R) as you did at Meribah,^[a]^(S)
    as you did that day at Massah^[b] in the wilderness,^(T)
⁹where your ancestors tested^(U) me;
    they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
¹⁰For forty years^(V) I was angry with that generation;
    I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,^(W)
    and they have not known my ways.’^(X)
¹¹So I declared on oath^(Y) in my anger,
    ‘They shall never enter my rest.’”^(Z)

Israel Will Rise

⁸Do not gloat over me,^(A) my enemy!
    Though I have fallen, I will rise.^(B)
Though I sit in darkness,
    the Lord will be my light.^(C)
⁹Because I have sinned against him,
    I will bear the Lord’s wrath,^(D)
until he pleads my case^(E)
    and upholds my cause.
He will bring me out into the light;^(F)
    I will see his righteousness.^(G)
¹⁰Then my enemy will see it
    and will be covered with shame,^(H)
she who said to me,
    “Where is the Lord your God?”^(I)
My eyes will see her downfall;^(J)
    even now she will be trampled^(K) underfoot
    like mire in the streets.

¹¹The day for building your walls^(L) will come,
    the day for extending your boundaries.
¹²In that day people will come to you
    from Assyria^(M) and the cities of Egypt,
even from Egypt to the Euphrates
    and from sea to sea
    and from mountain to mountain.^(N)
¹³The earth will become desolate because of its inhabitants,
    as the result of their deeds.^(O)

Prayer and Praise

¹⁴Shepherd^(P) your people with your staff,^(Q)
    the flock of your inheritance,
which lives by itself in a forest,
    in fertile pasturelands.^[a]^(R)
Let them feed in Bashan^(S) and Gilead^(T)
    as in days long ago.^(U)

¹⁵“As in the days when you came out of Egypt,
I will show them my wonders.^(V)”

¹⁶Nations will see and be ashamed,^(W)
    deprived of all their power.
They will put their hands over their mouths^(X)
    and their ears will become deaf.
¹⁷They will lick dust^(Y) like a snake,
    like creatures that crawl on the ground.
They will come trembling^(Z) out of their dens;
    they will turn in fear^(AA) to the Lord our God
    and will be afraid of you.
¹⁸Who is a God^(AB) like you,
    who pardons sin^(AC) and forgives^(AD) the transgression
    of the remnant^(AE) of his inheritance?^(AF)
You do not stay angry^(AG) forever
    but delight to show mercy.^(AH)
¹⁹You will again have compassion on us;
    you will tread our sins underfoot
    and hurl all our iniquities^(AI) into the depths of the sea.^(AJ)
²⁰You will be faithful to Jacob,
    and show love to Abraham,^(AK)
as you pledged on oath to our ancestors^(AL)
    in days long ago.^(AM)
